Magnus Zetterlund (b.1980) is an award-winning mandolin player and instructor from Sweden. He is a prominent musician on the Scandinavian folk scene, collaborating with leading artists in Norway, Finland, and Sweden.

Magnus has a remarkable skill set in playing the octave mandolin, which is the bigger sister to the mandolin. You can hear the two instruments in his music in a unique interplay that represents both melody and groove. He likes to point out, "the beautiful sound of the two instruments perfectly melts together, and the way they blend is just like coffee and cream, or vanilla and chocolate. "

He is a passionate mandolin instructor and the founder of Mandolin Secrets, an online platform that helps mandolinists take their playing to the next level. His YouTube channel has provided weekly inspiration and value since late 2017, and the tutorials have now more than 1,100,000 views.

The mandolin playing serves as Magnus's North Star and gives him a fulfilling direction in life. He says it's all about "having fun and connecting with inspiring people."

He has a strong belief that music-making illuminates the best parts of a human being and is a wonderful medium to bridge our differences. That's why he shares the craft and art of mandolin playing with as many people as possible.

Magnus's ten-year vision is to spread the joy of mandolin to millions of people. By serving thousands of mandolin students, the powerful ripple effect will probably take Magnus there even sooner.

In 2007 Magnus became the first Swedish mandolinist to graduate from higher education when he completed his studies at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

It's the 100th Anniversary of Bill Monroe's Gibson F-5 mandolin, signed by Lloyd Loar.
His instrument, the Gibson F-5 Master model with serial number 73987, was tested and approved on July 9th, 1923. It has become the most famous instrument in country and bluegrass music history.

I'm celebrating the anniversary with my new mandolin original called Majblomman (The Mayflower) by me, Magnus Zetterlund. It's a lively tune that is fun to play.

My composition is not bluegrass music. However, I feel part of a tradition that returns to Mr. Bill Monroe, Lloyd Loar, and the players and builders before them.

My new instrument is modeled after the legendary mandolin I just mentioned. I play a Red Diamond mandolin, The Vintage F Model, July 9th voicing, -a fantastic instrument by Mr. Don Macrostie.

I'm grateful to be a part of a long and living tradition of mandolin music.
